The best season for Holland cruises starts from April as tulip time begins from the month of April.
Boats, yachts, and hotel barges are available for Holland cruising. There are canal side bars and cafes that provide traditional Dutch food. You can enjoy Holland cruises by traveling along the Friesian region with hundreds of lakes. Tourists have options for enjoying water sports.
Loosdrecht is a Holland base to start a journey along lakes and canals to reach the cities of Amsterdam, Hilversum, and Utrecht. Panoramic visions of the Dutch countryside, lifting bridges, and dykes make Holland cruises memorable. Holland cruises charters help to plan the excursions in boats, ships, or yachts for visiting attractive locations in Holland. Keukenhof gardens during tulip time, Aalsmeer – the world’s largest flower auction centre, the city of Hague, Amsterdam, and art museums are some places of tourist importance.
Holland cruises to visit different parts of Holland and the Belgium towns of Antwerp, Brussels, and Bruges start from the city of Amsterdam, on the Rhine and Moselle rivers. (EzineArticles)

These all-inclusive deals can obscure the correct price of anything, but let’s just say this supply from CheapCaribbean.com is fairly darn low cost. The discount travel business that focuses on all-inclusive trips to the Caribbean and Mexico is celebrating its 10th birthday and offering a particular $10 per person deal on a hotel in the Dominican Republic.

Beginning today, CheapCaribbean.com – based in Doylestown, Pa. – has an all-inclusive bundle to the Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort and Spa in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, with VIP amenities such as private beach and leading shelf liquor, for only $10 each, NOT including air. When you add the airfare, the 5-night deal is about $399 each.

As I said, fairly darn inexpensive. When I checked moments ago, there had been 80 reservations remaining on the $10 per person. The offer is supposed to final for the subsequent 10 days, but the site is already getting slammed.

Additionally, travelers who book packages during the 10-day sale, acquire birthday gifts – including free of charge margarita machines with all Mexico vacation offers, totally free catamaran cruises with Jamaica holidays and $50 Amex gift cards with all other pacakges. Appears like a party.

Many flights at Boston’s Logan International Airport to destinations including Baltimore, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. were canceled.

“It happens. It’s weather. You deal with it,” commented one traveler at Logan airport.

In the Columbus Day Parade over 35,000 people participate in New York City each year. The Columbus Day Parade Nyc 2009 is on Monday, October 12, 2009. It begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. It started on Fifth Avenue at 44th Street, and continues north along Fifth Avenue to 79th Street. The Columbus Day throng took place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 50th Street, Fifth Avenue at 9:30 a.m.

The mutual respect and cooperation between Italy and the USA as well as the companionship between the two countries is particularly celebrated. Political leaders along with Broadway performers, champion high schools and college bands, folkloric groups and Italian delegations from assorted regions meet together to the procession with music, colorful costumes and floats striding along Fifth Avenue. WNBC broadcasts live in the states and on RAI International in Italy; Columbus Day Parade is a very nationalistic event.

A drove of classic and modern Maserati sports and luxury cars has guided New York City’s 65th annual Columbus Day Parade up Fifth Avenue on October 12, 2009.

A number of ancient Roman statues might lie beneath the turquoise waters of the Blue Grotto on the island of Capri in southern Italy, according to an underwater survey of the sea cave.

Dating to the 1st century A.D., the cave was used as a swimming pool by the Emperor Tiberius (42 B.C. – 37 A.D.), and the statues are probably depictions of sea gods.

“A preliminary underwater investigation has revealed several statue bases which might possibly hint to sculptures lying nearby,” Rosalba Giugni, president of the environmentalist association, Marevivo, told Discovery News.

Carried out in collaboration with the archaeological superintendency of Pompeii, the Marevivo project aims at returning the Blue Grotto to its ancient glory by placing identical copies of Tiberius’ statues where they originally stood.

Celebrated for the almost phosphorescent blue tones of the water and the mysterious silvery light flowing through fissures in the rocks, the Grotta Azzurra, as the cave is called in Italian, is one of the top attractions in Capri.

The island was the capital of the Roman empire between 27 and 37 A. D., when Tiberius made a permanent home there to take advantage of the mild climate and its seclusion.

Dividing his time among 12 villas and orgiastic feasts, the emperor used to bath in the almost hallucinogenic blue light of the cave, swimming among naked boys and girls.

The story goes that those who displeased him were thrown into the sea from a rock near his Villa Jovis. Perched 1,000 feet above the sea with Mount Vesuvius’s cone in the distance, this was the most magnificent of his residences on the island.

The Blue Grotto might have been equally amazing. In 1964, archaeologists recovered three statues from the sea bottom. One sculpture depicts the sea good Neptune, while the other two statues each represented the Greek god Triton, who was the son of Poseidon (Neptune, for the Romans).

According to the archaeologists, the position of the Tritons’ shoulders (the arms are missing) would suggest that the marine creatures were blowing into large seashells as if they were trumpets.

Triton was known to carry a twisted conch shell, on which he blew to calm or raise the waves.

The recovered sculptures confirmed an account by Roman scholar Pliny the Elder (23 A.D. – 79 A.D.), who described the sea cave as populated by a Triton “playing on a shell.”

Now on display at a museum in Anacapri, the three statues have provided a glimpse of the original setting of the Blue Grotto.

According to the reconstruction, a swarm of Tritons headed by Neptune might have lined the rocky walls of the cave. Bathed in the magic light of the grotto, the statues stood with waters at their knees.

During the Marevivo survey, aimed at finding the original bases of the three statues, divers found a total of seven bases at a depth of 150 meters (492 feet). This suggests that at least four other statues lie on the cave’s sandy bottom.

“The sculptures were all placed at the same level. It is likely that other statues will come to light as the project continues with new underwater investigations,” diver Vasco Fronzoni told Discovery News.

The Grotta Azzurra’s reputation as a natural paradise was seriously threatened last month. The cave was closed twice due to fears that its waters had been contaminated by raw sewage.

Aimed at returning the grotto to its full ancient glory, the Marevivo project is also expected to pave the way to a more strict controls to preserve the natural wonder.

“By next summer, tourists to the Grotta Azzurra will enjoy a really unique experience,” Giugni said.

In 2011, the “Disney Wonder“will be sailing from Los Angeles to Mexico and for the first time ever, from Vancouver to Alaska. “There are a ton of active outings for families when the ship sails into the different ports of call,” explained Cruise and Travel Specialist Pam Harper Horst. “In Mexico, you can snorkle, swim with the dolphins, go four wheeling, and walk around the town and go shopping. In Alaska, there are zip lines, mountain hikes, trips up to the top of Mt. Juneau and all sorts of trails for hiking, walking and running.”

Other Alaskan tours include biking while taking in views of the glaciers, sledding on top of a mountain with the Iditarod dogs–yes the very dogs who run the races through Alaska every year, raft adventures, canoeing, fishing and kayaking.

Cruising makes it easy to stay fit on your days at sea. Like all other Disney ships, the “Wonder” has three sparkling pools, including one for just adults and a bunch of fitness-oriented activities onboard. Passengers can choose from shuffleboard, ping pong, basketball and street hockey. Walkers and runners will love taking in the scenic views from Deck 4 while enjoying the 1/3 mile loop.

Look for a fitness center with cardio and weight machines and group exercise classes. If you’re watching what you eat, “spa” choices are offered on the menu as healthier options.

“Since this is the first and only time that Disney will be cruising to Alaska, I expect reservations to sell out very quickly. It may sound silly to plan this far out but the best rates for a Disney cruise are typically when they go on sale, particularly the ones that are out-of-the-ordinary like Alaska,” said Horst, who will be up bright and early for first bookings on Monday, September 28.

Make sure to ask about special offers where children 17 and under sail free.

DENALI NATIONAL PARK The sun was about to set as Greg LaHaie sat down in the main room of his lodge to plan for the next day’s schedule of flights for Kantishna Air Taxi.

LaHaie owns this flight-seeing service and lodge, located at the end of the road, 95 miles inside this 6 million acre national park, just 20 miles from the north face of the towering mountain.

Skyline Lodge is a cozy tri-level, solar powered building, nestled into the side of a mountain. It attracts independent travelers from around the world, ready to set off on a variety of adventures.

On a day in late August, lodge guests and employees gathered around the table at LaHaie’s solar-powered lodge to share their day’s experiences.

Outside, in the rapidly fading daylight, the silence was palatable. The mountainous terrain and deep valleys were ripe with the brilliant reds and yellows of autumn.

It was a scene that could have inspired the words of Robert Service’s poem, “The Spell of the Yukon” “It’s the beauty that thrills me with wonder. It’s the stillness that fills me with peace.”

Even now, LaHaie goes into visual overload when he flies visitors around the area.

“It’s standing in awe of the creation and realizing that it hasn’t changed much in the last 10,000 years, and you are hearing the same sounds,” he said. “It has that prehistoric feel, so much so that you wouldn’t be surprised to see a mastodon or a dinosaur standing up on the hills.

Skyline Lodge saw an increase in the number of guests this year, thanks to an expansion of accommodations. Other lodges in the area saw business decline, from 16 percent to 45 percent. LaHaie’s own air taxi business declined 20 percent in passenger traffic, he said.

“We started out with a lot of empty rooms, but were able to fill up the rest during the season,” he said in a telephone conversation Sept. 13, while he worked to close down his facilities for the season. “There is a lot of fear for next year too, that this is just the beginning of the slow season. But we get a lot of independent travelers, and being a small place like that, we are probably going to survive just fine.”

Skyline Lodge caters to those willing to pack their own lunches and explore the park on their own.

LaHaie said that he prefers “a bunch of people like myself, who I like to get up in the morning and have coffee with. If we talk to folks and think they are too high end maintenance, we suggest they try something else.”

Skyline’s accommodations include four cabins, each furnished with a double bed and two single sleeping pads in the loft. Bathroom and shower facilities in the main lodge are available for guest use.

Self-guided activities include day hiking in the Kantishna Hills, mountain biking on the park road and old mining roads, fishing in Wonder Lake or flightseeing over Denali and the Alaska Range.

Many guests just enjoy relaxing at the lodge with its collection of Alaskana books, and getting a firsthand view of the daily lives of Alaskan Bush pilots.

Most Skyline Lodge customers are avid adventurers who like to hike, “but would like to come home to a warm bed and good food,” rather than camp out in a tent, said employee Matt Unterberger. They are “independent travelers who don’t need their hand held at all times,” he said.

Rates are modest by comparison to nearby Camp Denali/North Face Lodge, Kantishna Roadhouse and Backcountry Lodge, which offer guests guided adventures, more luxurious accommodations and evening educational programs.

LaHaie grew up in Grand Rapids, Mich. and came to Alaska as a college student in the 1980s with a roommate whose brother, Bruce Lee, was a dog musher at Denali.

LaHaie spent the summer backpacking through the park.

“I was absolutely hooked, and realized flying was the only way to see the landscape,” he said.

He returned to Michigan to attend flight school, and later bought a plane with a friend and flew people around for gas money. He returned to Denali and worked his first winter for Dennis Kogl, who ran the dog kennels for the National Park Service.

He also did carpentry work and guiding trips, until the owner of the Kantishna Roadhouse suggested he start a fly-in service for the lodges. He gradually built up a clientele list, and by 2002 had built and opened the Skyline Lodge. Initially it was to be a home office base for employees for the air taxi. “Running the lodging was a second thought,” he said.

The air taxi service is LaHaie’s dream, even though, by his own admission “every landing is a lot of work. It’s not like flying out of a 4,000-foot airstrip,” he said.

LaHaie has had a few harrowing experiences, all of which he emerged from unscathed.

One was a trip in 1993, in the days before global positioning systems. LaHaie was flying back to Kantishna from Anchorage after dropping off clients and picking up groceries. The weather was clear on the south side of Denali, but fog rolled in on the north side. At one point, the weather went to complete whiteout conditions, but he was able to follow one clear column of space straight up to clear sky, and had enough gas to get back to the landing strip at the park entrance.

Nowadays, with GPS, radio phones and assorted other equipment, flying is a lot safer, he said.

Over the past few years, LaHaie has ferried hundreds of visitors through the park, including famed explorer, mountaineer and photographer Brad Washburn, and his wife, Barbara, the first woman to summit Denali.

“He was great,” said LaHaie. “The last time I saw him, he had just turned 90, and he said, ‘Me and the lady are starting to slow down a bit.’”

Washburn died of heart failure in January 2007 at a retirement home in Lexington, Mass.

LaHaie also has transported three surviving members of an ill-fated 1954 Denali expedition for a reunion in Kantishna. It was the first successful ascent of the South Buttress of Denali. Elton Thayer, the most experienced of the party, died in a fall from the mountain, but George Argus, Les Viereck and Morton “Woody” Wood all survived.

Skyline Lodge is already booking for the 2010 season. According to LaHaie, June is great for seeing more wildlife, before there is much traffic on the park road. Spring flowers are amazing and weather patterns are more stable than in later summer.

July is great for 24-hour daylight, and August offers the changing of the seasons, a chance of snow on the hills and even seeing the northern lights, he said.

Just how close does the wildlife get to the lodge? “We’ve had grizzlies right on the deck at the lodge,” he said.

More significant, however were the foxes, martens, wolves, magpies and ravens that camped out inside the main lodge last winter, after the double doors to the kitchen blew open.

Closing down the lodge for the season routinely includes putting plywood across the doors, but in the autumn of 2008, the staff was rushing out to attend an employee’s wedding and didn’t get the plywood up.

Climbers discovered the mess and alerted LaHaie in the early spring.

“We had to do a major cleaning when everything was still frozen,” he said.

Henceforth, that plywood will be up on the doors before they leave for the season, he said.
