Holiday travelers stranded at Logan airport due to storm

Many flights at Boston’s Logan International Airport to destinations including Baltimore, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. were canceled.

“It happens. It’s weather. You deal with it,” commented one traveler at Logan airport.

Some travelers even opted to sleep on the floor.

“I gotta fly out of town tomorrow, so hopefully everything will be open and running by then,” said Brian Smith, a stranded passenger.

The storm also shut down Amtrak’s trains along the East Coast.

It begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. It started on Fifth Avenue at 44th Street, and continues north along Fifth Avenue to 79th Street. The Columbus Day throng took place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 50th Street, Fifth Avenue at 9:30 a.m.

The mutual respect and cooperation between Italy and the USA as well as the companionship between the two countries is particularly celebrated. Political leaders along with Broadway performers, champion high schools and college bands, folkloric groups and Italian delegations from assorted regions meet together to the procession with music, colorful costumes and floats striding along Fifth Avenue. WNBC broadcasts live in the states and on RAI International in Italy; Columbus Day Parade is a very nationalistic event.

Roman Statues Found in Blue Grotto Cave

A number of ancient Roman statues might lie beneath the turquoise waters of the Blue Grotto on the island of Capri in southern Italy, according to an underwater survey of the sea cave.

Dating to the 1st century A.D., the cave was used as a swimming pool by the Emperor Tiberius (42 B.C. – 37 A.D.), and the statues are probably depictions of sea gods.

“A preliminary underwater investigation has revealed several statue bases which might possibly hint to sculptures lying nearby,” Rosalba Giugni, president of the environmentalist association, Marevivo, told Discovery News.

In 2011, the “Disney Wonder“will be sailing from Los Angeles to Mexico and for the first time ever, from Vancouver to Alaska. “There are a ton of active outings for families when the ship sails into the different ports of call,” explained Cruise and Travel Specialist Pam Harper Horst. “In Mexico, you can snorkle, swim with the dolphins, go four wheeling, and walk around the town and go shopping. In Alaska, there are zip lines, mountain hikes, trips up to the top of Mt. Juneau and all sorts of trails for hiking, walking and running.”

DENALI NATIONAL PARK The sun was about to set as Greg LaHaie sat down in the main room of his lodge to plan for the next day’s schedule of flights for Kantishna Air Taxi.

LaHaie owns this flight-seeing service and lodge, located at the end of the road, 95 miles inside this 6 million acre national park, just 20 miles from the north face of the towering mountain.

Skyline Lodge is a cozy tri-level, solar powered building, nestled into the side of a mountain. It attracts independent travelers from around the world, ready to set off on a variety of adventures.

On a day in late August, lodge guests and employees gathered around the table at LaHaie’s solar-powered lodge to share their day’s experiences.

Outside, in the rapidly fading daylight, the silence was palatable. The mountainous terrain and deep valleys were ripe with the brilliant reds and yellows of autumn.
