Barcelona’s Picasso Museum is composed largely from the private collection of the artist’s longtime friend, Jaume Sabartes.

The Picasso Museum highlights include: Picasso’s childhood drawings made in La Coruna between the ages of 10 and 14; his blue period paintings; and his 44 cubist Las Meninas studies. The art historian looking to better understand Picasso’s life in Barcelona should take a walking tour of the artist’s life, which includes the Picasso family apartments, and the artist’s favorite haunts.

In addition to the Picasso Museum, art aficionados can tour the artists childhood home, which has been furnished in the style of the area and contains a permanent exhibition of Picasso’s early sketches and sculptures.

These mountains provide wonderful hiking trails and magnificent views of the sea below. There are also a number of fortified castles and towers dating to the medieval Kings of Majorca and the Knights Templar.

There are many things to do in Argeles sur Mer other than enjoy this wonderful stretch of beach. Park of Valmy, located a couple miles south of the city, offers walking trails to explore Mediterranean birds and flora of the region, picnic areas next to water features and fountains, and summer concerts.

The beaches continue nearly unbroken almost all the way to Marseille—a distance of nearly 200 miles. The town boasts a lovely seaside promenade lined with restaurants, bars, bistros, and small shops.

Paradise beach supports nude bathing and Mykonos nightlife gets pretty explosive here, primarily in the summer.

Getting to Mykonos is relatively easy, especially during the summer, when the island is at its busiest. During the summer, regular flights from Athens and Thessaloniki service Mykonos, and flights between the islands of Rhodes, Crete and Santorini are standard as well. Various Greece ferry lines offer another popular way to reach Mykonos and some boats run routes between Mykonos and other Greek islands. Once you are on Mykonos, busses and taxis operate the bulk of transportation, and various boat lines can transport visitors to and from different beaches.

This is the largest and most northerly of the Inner Hebrides Islands that lie off the northwest coast of mainland and are considered part of the Scottish Highlands. Portree is the capital of Isle of Skye Scotland. It is a picturesque small town that can easily be explored on foot. There are a number of Isle of Skye hotels in Portree. Most are fairly small and modest bed and breakfast establishments.

Dunvegan Castle and Gardens is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in the country. It has been the home of the Clan MacLeod since the 13th century, and provides a wonderful experience for visitors. Inside are priceless paintings, tapestries, and furnishings, and the grounds are beautiful. You can enjoy a meal in the castle’s café and take a boat trip to view the large seal colony, and perhaps see puffins and other unique birdlife along the way. Another of the island’s castles is also one of its museums—the Clan Donald Centre at Armadale Castle.
